Comment: Subject of Pindar's 8th Isthmian Ode. I generally follow Farrington (2012), no. 1.45 and p. 114 note 257; Farrington based his dating on the dating of the poem. Victories at Isthmia and Nemea (lines 1-5) as well as 'the contest of Alcathoös' (in Megara) and at Epidauros (lines 66-8); it is suggested he was young, perhaps age category ageneioi, but it is not made explicit; line 66 reveals the discipline: the pankration. - PK Kleandros appears as the honnorand of Pindar's 8th Isthmian Ode. The poem must have been composed a little after the end of the Persian invasion and the victory at Plataea (Farnell, 376). This can help to put as terminus post quem the battle of Plataea in 479 BC, dating the Isthmian victory to 480 and the Nemean to 481 or 479 BC. The poem also mentions a victory at Alkathea in Megara and Asklepieia in Epidauros (68-69). - EK
